The Goannas (old) — Deaf Basketball Australia

Australian Deaf Mens Basketball

The Goannas are the Men’s National representative team for deaf basketball in Australia and is made up of the best deaf athletes throughout the nation. Residing in multiple states, players travel once a month to their training base in Melbourne to train together for a weekend before resuming their normal representative club duties back home.

Because there is no funding available for the team, players split the expenses for training camps such as air fares, food and accommodation to keep costs as low as possible. Costs for a single training camp is typically around $200 an athlete which highlights the current squads long term commitment to the teams development.
